Why Train Your Toes to Bar?

Toes to Bar are the perfect vehicle with which to coach good foundations of gymnastics on the rig, and if there is one thing I know about gymnastics, it is that if you can do the foundations really well, it makes learning complex skills more easily attainable. Think about this program as Rig Skills 101.

In Train Your Toes to Bar you will learn how to perfect your arch and hollow in order to create a powerful kip swing, build your straight-arm strength so that you can fly on the bar, and forge an iron core to take control of your body and movement.

Each week of Train Your Toes to Bar will have a dynamic day of training where you will work on kipping and sets of T2B so you can learn to flow through your sets with ease, and a strict day where you will practice challenging static holds and controlled movements to sky rocket your strength.

What makes Train Your Toes to Bar uniquely effective is the coaching component - this is not just programming! Each workout you do will be analyzed by me and I will give you individualized feedback in the form of videos and writing to coach you through improving your movement.

Through Train Your Toes to Bar you can expect to improve your form and increase the capacity of your T2B sets. In other words, you will be able to hang on for longer and look good doing it!

Bio

Hi, I’m Coach Stef! I am an elementary school teacher turned CrossFit Coach that helps athletes learn gymnastics skills. I have my CF-L2, ten years of coaching experience, and thousands of hours working with people in person and online to achieve bodyweight skills.

I grew up doing gymnastics, but alas, because I never competed on the bars, I barely trained them. When I started CrossFit thirteen years ago, I really struggled to build strength and volume with my rig skills. I felt like my hands were always slipping off, I couldn’t figure out how to coordinate my kip swing, and once my toes hit the bar, I had no hope of getting them back up. I am uniquely attuned to the needs and frustrations of beginner and intermediate CrossFitters because I have been there, gone through the process, and have gained hard-earned and high-level gymnastics skills - and none of it came easy.

Getting to the point of being able to do T2B sets greater than five took me years of work within my group CrossFit classes and now that I’ve worked with many clients on their toes to bar, I have developed a way to expedite the process. By targeting both strict and kipping movements, strengthening the lats, building up the grip, and refining the kip swing, it is possible to improve toes to bar in a matter of weeks and I would like to help you do just that!

FAQs

Is Train Your T2B only for beginners?

Train your T2B is for all beginner and intermediate CrossFitters that want to get stronger, improve their technique, and learn about the important foundations of skills on the rig. Beginners will benefit from being exposed to the basics of good movement on the rig and intermediate athletes will benefit from the opportunity to refine their technique and improve efficiency of the their movment. There is no minimum work requirement, nor is there a ceiling that would limit someone from getting a lot out of this program.

How much time will this take each week?

There will be two workouts each week for six weeks during the program and you can expect to spend 30-40 minutes per session. You can do the sessions on any days of the week that work for you and are free to fit them in around your gym schedule as you see fit. I recommend you do your T2B programming before your class WOD and not after.

What equipment will I need?

You need a bar that you can hang from, a low bar (can be a barbell attached with bands), a box, and a thick band. Parallettes are a nice to have item, but two boxes or benches would work in a pinch.

Do I have to live in the U.S. to participate?

Everyone is welcome to join Train Your T2B and I love working with international clients. I speak Spanish with some fluidity, but the educational videos will all be in English, so some English proficiency will be required.
